The beer was cold, the chips, salsa and queso were good. The tacos were plain. But, the worst part three people in our group were sick afterwards. I would suggest passing on this one.

If eating mediocre Mexican food served in slow motion is your thing, then boy do I have a restaurant recommendation for you! We had eaten at Pepito's in Niceville earlier this week and had a great experience, so we were excited to learn there was a location in Miramar Beach just a few blocks from where we were staying. The excitement was pretty much dead upon arrival. The Miramar Beach restaurant did not seem clean. The queso dip we ordered was delivered without chips. It took a good five minutes to find someone to flag down to bring us chips. By then, the queso was cold. We ordered the exact same entrees that we ordered at the Niceville location, but neither was nearly as good. My advice is to pay the toll and go to the Niceville location.

I've eaten here twice and liked it a lot both times! The ceviche was outstanding. Great chips & salsa. Super service! Taco meat isn't anything amazing but not disgusting either .

This my second time visiting. First time was awesome. This time was ver good also. I had small queso. Very thick and great flavor. No problem getting my chips and salsa. They had special, margaritas for $1.99 and you could taste tequila. I really enjoyed it. Waiting for my steak enchiladas, will update as soon as I eat them

My family and I decided to have dinner here tonight. We ate here last year and didn't remember it being bad which is why we came back this year. I will not forget next year. Where do I start... We were seated fairly quickly considering it was dinner time on a Thursday night. Our waitress came to the table fairly quickly to take our drink orders, so I don't have any complaints about the service. The food... I ordered a chicken taco salad that surprisingly had more than lettuce and was pretty small and lacked flavor. My husband ordered a king burrito that was not king....it was a regular size burrito, it also lacked flavor. My three girls all ordered kids burrito plates and they probably used fajita sized shells, which is okay I guess. What I didn't expect is that they were smothered in what appeared to be salsa on the plate so they had to eat it with a fork. The ground beef was very salty and greasy. One of my girls sent hers back because she wanted a plain burrito with fries, the fries were greasy as was her burrito. Overall if you're looking for a quick bite and you're starving and don't care about the taste of your food stop in, if you're hungry and looking for a great and hearty Mexican meal keep looking

We had a group of 12 people and we were very well taken care of. We were seated and served very fast. The waiter and manager were very nice and helpful with all of our questions.

Arrived late traveling and was looking for something still open. I'm a sucker for Mexican food. They had just closed the kitchen but the manager went out of his way to make an order of enchiladas with steak for me. Was pleasantly surprised. The food was good. Salsa had a nice kick and chips fresh. Would go back if we were in the area again. Can't vouch for dining in as we just took an order to go after a long drive.

We liked it! The chips were tasty and the salsa - fresh! You can get your queso with chorizo (holla!). The entrees were good and we did have good service. This is part of the Pepito's family restaurants - there's one in Destin and they also own Crab Island Cantina. It's good stuff.

Absolutely the worst service ever!!! Congratulations to them for winning that award!! Food was ok at best if you want to wait over an hour for luke warm food. We walked in at 9pm and didn't leave til after 11. Worst tourist trap ever!! I've NEVER wrote a review in my life!!! (Good or bad) I totally get a few people having bad days can really bring down a restaurant but this was every single employee!! Please save yourself the time and money especially if you have kids!!

Service and food was excellent. Would highly recommend. Had the grilled chicken chimichanga with rice and beans on side. Was pleasantly surprised. Seasoning was perfect-not overly salty like you normally get. Rest of the group had fajitas, enchiladas, and chicken quesadilla and cheese dip. Everyone was happy with what they got. Also the margaritas were very good. Couldn't finish it though----need Uber in Destin. ;). Will definitely come back.

This quaint spot is your standard Mexican Restaurant featuring all the usual dishes. It's quick and convenient for lunch. The staff is very polite and attentive. One time they charged me for the wrong thing, but quickly removed that charge. Now, that's great service! Now, you may be asking yourself, "why only one star if their food and service are so good. Well, I'll tell you now: There's a lady who works there in a pink shirt who stands out front just before 9 PM and announces to those arriving that they close in 15 minutes. A very clear hint that one should not walk in. You close at 9:15 PM?! I was told by the internet and your sign that you close at 10 PM! I just wanted a damn taco! This is indicative of an overall problem in the Destin area. Can't there be a damn restaurant or two open after 9 PM! Someone solve this!

This is the greatest Mexican food outside of Mexico! Can you go to Baja, California, El Paso, Moes, anywhere! And, you will never find better Mexican food and I have down here. The friendliest people in the world serving the best food in the whole wide world. Come eat at Pepitos!

  • Shaye S.

Food is consistently good, but service has consistently gotten worse over time. Not the same as the original Pepito's in Destin. Hopefully it will get better. The cheese dip is legit though.

Awesome food! Was in a party of 4. 4 different meals and all were great! Service was a tad bit slow. We were there after the noon rush and only 1 of 3 tables being served. Server was plenty friendly. May hv been his lunch break. Food was 5 star. Service was 3. Split the difference to equal my 4.

This was an average Mexican. Restaurant. It did have a large selection on the menu. The serving were large. We did have problems with the server continually forgetting things we needed. Not a bad place to eat.

food 5 stars but service 1 star (wish i could give them 0 stars for service). walked in and the hostess ask how many. we said 4 but for some reason she brought only 3 menus. ? so she seats us then returns and looks around to try and remember which group was short 1 menu. duh. ordered our drinks and the server got 1 of the drinks wrong. my seafood soup was delish. someone in our party ordered beans but got rice instead. the kicker was our bill was charged to another patron. get your better servers and you'll stay in business folks.

This is the worst Pepitos there is in the panhandle. The food is good. But the service is absolutely horrible. I've been to this one 3 times with friends because they love the food so much, and every time I swear I'll never go back because the waitresses are worthless. It takes forever to get your food and they don't check on you in between getting your order and delivering your meal. If you want to sacrifice good service for decent Mexican then try it, but if you don't like bad service don't go.

Decent Mexican for Destin! White queso dip, salsa, and chips were great; filled up on them quick. Enchiladas, tacos, rice, and beans tasted authentic and delicious. Also, the restaurant is bigger and nicer inside than it appears from the street

The service here is great. The staff is friendly meet us at the door and walked us straight to our seat. I had coctel de Camarones. Itwas very good. Full of large shrimp and avocado. But my wife's dish was unbelievably good. She had 3 taqueria style tacos. 1 al pastor, 1 asada, 1 carnitas. The carnitas being the best she's ever had.

Ok so im not a Mexican restaurant connoisseur by any means but several things come to mind when you think mexican food. Those things would be chips, salsla, and fast service. We have been to this place once or twice before and it was pretty decent. My family and i, being 5 of us, sat down to eat here for dinner. Without giving you the intimate details of the entire "meal" i will keep it short. We sat down and ordered drinks. They came and we ordered our food. The place was not packed by any means. We received stale chips, asked for more- those were also stale but we decided it was best to wait for our food so we waited....and continued to wait for another hour and still nothing. No food and our waitress had gone M.I.A as well. We finally flagged her down and asked how much longer and she replied that it would be another 10 minutes. It was apparent they hadnt started our meal yet. So instead of waiting we payed for our drinks and left. This place has gone down hill a lot since our last visit. Disappointing to say the least.

This place is the best mexican food place ever! If you want to get the best, come here! My server Ricky was outstandingly generous and very helpful. He would come by every time to check how everything was doing. This place is affordable too!!! It reminds me of my hometown in Mexico with it's authentic food! You won't regret it!

It's okay! We came here while on vaca and staying around the corner. I read the reviews of the Destin location and thought we'd try it even though it's new. We were seated promptly which was amazing- tourist time, party of 8! Chips & salsa- YUM! Chips are really light & thin type- salsa, not too runny, not too chunky- very fresh and yummy! The menu says $1 for additional salsa though- not good for large parties like ours! We got the white queso- it was pretty bland- needed some kick, some pico or veggies in it- white queso is our favorite so we always look for it- prob the reason we came in the first place. Nothing special and don't come just for that! Service was ok- had to ask over and over for the same thing- to diff servers- more salsa, Chips, flour tortillas, butter- they kept forgetting the butter then finally brought a dish of a square (large) lump of something- lard? It wasn't butter or margarine. I got cheese and onion enchiladas with red sauce- they forgot the onions but I didn't say anything- cheesy and chhese had a great tangy flavor. A la cart beef taco (bc there was no combo with cheese enchilada &'taco) beef taco was soggy and the meat tasted horrible- it was just mush with no flavor whatsoever! Street tacos- 1-beef 1-chicken- came out wrong- we couldn't discern what it was- veggie taco? Idk but they grabbed it and brought the right thing then- They were ok. Hubby got beef nachos but they forgot the beef- just beans but he didn't complain. Beef enchilada platter- my son hated it and my daughter ate the rest! 1- ordered hot wings as meal- pretty good- mostly the drumettes- a plus! Over all not bad. I wouldn't go back-On The Border's way better- LOL Kids meals- lots to choose from- corn dogs, Mac & cheese, etc. they hot those two ad the chicken looked really good. Looked like Kraft Mac & cheese!

One if my favorites! Always good at any location. Great family restaurant. As far as local Mexican it's tops. Enchiladas potaciñas is The best. Los tradicionales tacos son muy buenos. Tener una margarita y disfrutar de la comida.

Stopped in for the first time at 9:30 at night " they close at 10:00" service was great and the food is awesome . Have eaten here again since . Must try the gorditas pastor and fish tacos . Authentic !!!

The food was bland & the drinks were obnoxiously strong taking away from any desired flavoring. Never coming back.

There are several Pepito's in the area and they have all been such a different experience for me. I must say this is my favorite one so far. Pleasant and efficient service, clean, and the food was good. No problems at all. Price was $30 which included 2 meals, 3 beers along with complimentary chips and salsa. I would say overall a good experience.

Amazing food, amazing service, amazing quality... AMAZING! The portions are large and packed with flavor and come out sizzling fresh! I recommend the Fajita Texanas and the traditional *sopappias* (sp?). My waitress was very knowledgable of the menu and took the time to explain any entrée we did not understand. GREAT ALL AROUND!

  • Ashley R.

Food was great, cheese dip was really good although a small is only a few bites each for 2 people. Service was awful. They were nice and apologetic but we were there over 2 hours as a party of 2. First 20 minutes waiting for a server to come by and bring us chips and salsa. We made it as easy as possible by giving her our drinks, appetizer, and entrees at the same time so she didn't have to make several trips. 30 minutes later we get our water and soda, another hour later we finally get our food with no silverware. 10 minutes of staring at our food we finally get silverware and then our appetizer that was forgotten about. No compensation what so ever, so we will not be going back.

My benchmark is rice and beans. Thumbs up. Very good. Tamales very tasty...masa moist not dry. Frozen margaritas ..middle of the road but 2 for 1 so it's OK. Chips/salsa...bland Service was good and food came out quick Bill was $30 for 2 of us for dinner I would come back.

  • Doc A.

They just pain cheat you. My daughter and I ordered Fajita burritos. Bill came and there was a 4$ charge for steak ??(we ordered steak burritos, so what is that on the menu called steak burritos, if you have to charge 4$ more), 4$ charge for rice, 4$ for beans, 4$ for salsa.... we were not told anything until we had eaten and the check was brought. Most fraeking expensive burrito I ever paid for. So what do you get when you order what is on the menu. No explanations were provided. So we pay and leave. DO NOT GO HERE. IF YOU DO, ASK WHAT IS INCLUDED when you order.

Pepito's of Destin has opened yet another location, this one is in the former home of Fajita's and Copper Grill. I went during their opening week and was underwhelmed by the service, but pleased with the food. I'm sure they are having some growing pains and the service issues will work themselves out. They did a good job of bringing over the exact recipes from the Pepito's we all love. I'll go back.

Waiter brought 2 tiny bowls of hot sauce for our chips for 4 of us! I asked for 2 more so each would have one. He said he would have to charge $4.00 for extra hot sauce! I said in Texas chips and hot sauce are free - all you want! Even other Mexican places in Destin do the same! The bowls where so tiny they looked like they were for a child! I told them we had eaten in their other restaurant down 98 near Old Time Pottery and they always gave us all the salsa we wanted with the chips. The waiter wanted to be argumentative also which should not happen anytime! He finally brought us 2 more tiny bowls of salsa. I imagine salsa is the cheapest commodity they have- bought in bulk - probably not home made, It is a shame a restaurant wants to lose customers over 2 bowls of salsa but they just did!! I told him the other places in town don't do that! If It had been me alone, I would have gotten up and said I was going to Cantno Laredo where they act professional and know how to treat customers!! I won't go back to a cheap place like that again! This even happened after Christmas when the visitors start slowing down and snowbirds come in. We have a condo on Sandestin and come there 6-7 weeks a year! We usually eat Mexican each time we come. The next time it won't be at Pepitos!!!!!

Chips and salsa were good. Cheese dip was good. Main entrees were not good at all. The tacos were greasy, hard tacos were were falling apart from the grease and soft taco shells were doughy and sticky. The wait staff was slow also, but that could be due to the newness of this location. For much better mexican food, go to Don Pedro's Cantina just down the road. Skip Pepito's, there is much better mexican food to be eaten in the Destin area.

Sorry for the low rating Pepito, but I left unimpressed. The waitresses and service was great! They were all very kind and polite and made sure we had everything we needed, it was just the actual food that didn't do it for me. My whole family ate off the lunch specials; I ordered the fajita plate (steak fajitas w/ refried beans & rice). The rice and beans were good, nothing special, but the "fajitas" were meh. I didn't enjoy them, not much flavor and their tortillas tasted like something from the Mission brand. It wasn't worth the 11.99. My dad got the same thing and agreed with me, "put Pepitos on the skip list next time we're in Florida". My mom ordered flautas and had no complaints about it. My brother ordered a quesadilla and enjoy his food as well. My other brother ordered "cheese enchiladas" but apparently it's extra for cheese. His only problem was it was salty, very salty. Overall it was a decent experience, not top of the line Mexican food. If you aren't accustomed to home-made or more traditional Mexican food you may find it more enjoyable than myself. Their pricing were all reasonable for the other items we ordered in my opinion, but like I said we ate off the lunch special menu section. Oh, the portions were also pretty large as well.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
